THE STORY OF BYRON CIGARS

In 1823 George Gordon Byron, Baron Byron or more commonly known as Lord Byron becomes the official Poet Laureate of the cigar, thanks to “The Island” and the line “Yet thy true lovers more admire by far thy naked beauties — give me a cigar!”

In 1848 Jose and Eusebio Alfonso, cousins, opened a small cigar factory in Santiago de Las Vegas, a province of Havana Cuba and created a cigar brand named Lord Byron in honor of this world renowned English poet. He was arguably the greatest author of romantic poetries of the day and more importantly pertaining to the brand, an avid cigar smoker and enthusiast. Some researchers say “Lord Byron became the first cigar brand to adorn a lithographed cigar band and label with a name on it”. More than eighty years later, in the 1930’s, The Great Depression hits and Lord Byron cigars were gone, but not forever.

Now…150 years later the original owners’ great-great-great grandson Nelson Alfonso recovered again the Byron brand name in 1998.

Today Byron Cigars have finally returned, now produced in a small factory in Costa Rica. Nelson Alfonso continues where his ancestors left off, and is taking Byron Cigars through processes no cigar has even seen before. The cigar leaves are hand selected and color sorted, not just the wrappers, but every leaf including binder and filler leaves, to create the most balanced and consistent cigar possible. As a general rule, cigars usually sit in an aging room on average about 60 days. Finished Byron Cigars sit in an aging room for period of 1 year to marry, then transported to another factory that specializes in quality control and packaging of the cigars into the ultra humidified luxurious porcelain jars, super elaborate humidors and state-of-the-art cigar humitubes.

Byron Cigars comes in 3 different blends: Byron “SIGLO XIX “(19th Century), Byron “SIGLO XX “(20th Century) and Byron “SIGLO XXI ” (21st Century) each standing for the centuries this brand has gone through, and each unique and special in every way.
